Top reasons to build an ADU?
Building an Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) can have several benefits:
Proximity
Having an ADU allows for close family support while maintaining independence.
Community
Building an ADU fosters a multi-generational living environment, promoting family bonds and shared experiences.
Caregiving
As parents age, they may need more support. An ADU can make it easier to provide care without fully moving them in.
Property Value
Adding an ADU can enhance the value of your property, making it a worthwhile investment.
Affordability
An ADU can be a cost-effective housing solution compared to traditional nursing homes or assisted living facilities.
Flexible Space
An ADU can be repurposed in the future, whether for other family members, guests, or rental income.

What is the difference?
Common Financing Options
How clients are paying for ADU's and our construction projects?
Home Equity Line of Credit
In the current economic climate,
a HELOC, or Home Equity Line
Of Credit is the most common
financing option that our current
customers are using. This is a line
of credit taken out based on the
equity you have and broken into
two pay periods, a draw period,
and a payback period. You are
only charged interest on the
amount of the loan that you use
which you can draw from to pay
for your project during a specific
period, typically around 10 years.
Renovation or Construction Loan
Unlike loans based on existing
equity, renovation/construction
loans do not use your home as
collateral. If you don't have much
equity then this may be a great
option. However, this often has a
more strict credit and income
requirement as well as typically a
higher interest rate, making the
monthly payment often higher
than with other options.
Alternative Options
Similar to a HELOC, a cash-out
refinance is based on your current
equity, however rather than being
secondary to your mortgage, it
replaces your current mortgage
and you can use the difference as a way to pay for your ADU.
- Sale of another home or property
- Borrowing from family/friends
- A personal loan or line of credit
- Private money loans
- Cash
